Design Manager

The Role:

A global architecture practice is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team at their office in Birmingham on a permanent basis. Our client boasts an impressive portfolio on a multitude of award-winning schemes across all sectors.

This is a great opportunity to play a pivotal role in leading a team of designers on a variety of projects within the workplace, mixed-use and commercial industry reporting directly to the Design Director. In addition to the above, the practice offers an enhanced benefits package, hybrid working options and excellent work culture.

Please note: Our client is offering an excellent incentive relocation package for a London-based candidate wanted to move to Birmingham.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the overall cross-functional project team
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing clients and contribute to new business development
  • Holding responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of projects ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget
  • Take ownership of problems and liaise with the studio leader to come up with successful resolutions
  • Maintain an awareness of existing clients’ business objectives, plans, target audience and market trends, and ensure that appropriate opportunities are identified to generate further demand for our client’s services
  • Manage client, project and team coordination and consultants in MEP, structural, lighting, AV, landscape, civil and other departments
  • Oversee timesheet management, review internal project accounting documents and process draft project billing and timesheet management

Key Skills:

  • A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in Design Management is crucial ideally within the workplace, mixed-use or commercial industry
  • Experience managing many teams of consultants and resolving design and technical issues across all stages
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in interior design or architecture
  • Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • Proven ability to provide excellent client services and account leadership
  • Proficiency in Revit is desirable
  • Strong programming and space planning skills
