Director of Interior Design – Luxury Residential

The Role:

Our client is a distinguished, interdisciplinary design and architectural practice that has a broad portfolio of high-end hospitality, residential and commercial projects, based in NYC. With a friendly team of accomplished architects, designers, and project managers who bring diverse perspectives and experiences to every project, resulting in thoughtfully designed spaces that are both functional and beautiful.

This role will focus on the luxury residential projects across the firm as Director of Interior Design. The ideal candidate will come from a career of significant leadership and client-facing experience and in designing and managing high-end residential projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead to the team from concept through to construction, including sourcing, purchasing, installation, and styling
  • Collaborate with architectural counterparts and project managers to ensure cohesive design intent throughout the project lifecycle
  • Lead and manage a team of interior designers, including mentoring and training junior employees, conducting annual reviews, and providing feedback
  • Interview and review intermediate/junior staff and new hires
  • Review and comment on designers’ work to ensure design intent
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the firm, including future growth and structure
  • Present projects and participate in client meetings
  • Oversee billing projections and quarterly account reviews
  • Conduct staffing projections
  •  Review design documentation at all phases
  • Travel to site and to meet clients when needed

Key Skills:

  • A degree in Architecture or Interior Design Degree, professional accreditation would be considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, specifically in a client-facing capacity
  • Senior-level experience in high-end single-family projects, with a proven track record of finished/built work.
  • Ability to manage project teams and clients associated with complex residential projects
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to self-manage and manage staff
  • Proficiency in CAD and Adobe CS
