Financial Controller

The Role:

Our client, a reputable global design studio, is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee all financial operations for their beautiful, mid-size NYC studio. This is a great opportunity for someone who has previous experience in a senior-level finance role and would be happy diving into a hands-on position within a busy and team-oriented office.

The position involves managing all of the New York studio’s finances, including tracking various departmental budgets and managing A/R and A/P. In addition, the ideal candidate would be comfortable stepping in and providing financial guidance to upper management, as well as working with design leads to ensure that movement is aligned with project budgets. This is an integral and dynamic position which offers the opportunity for the right candidate to truly bolster the financial health of the company and advise on future strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the studio’s finances including the preparation of tax returns
  • Manage A/R, A/P, and general accounting
  • Oversee monthly payroll and related benefits for internal staff
  • Work closely with business development and design leads to draft financial proposals and track budgets
  • Manage client accounts, perform credit checks, and produce statements/invoices as needed
  • Negotiate financial contracts with external parties when needed
  • Communicate key updates and provide financial guidance to the upper management
  • Create and maintain company-wide ledgers, as well as budgeting forecasts and revenue goals
  • Oversee budgets for any FF&E procurement
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Track billing schedules, company expenditures, and sales targets and perform regular budget reviews

Key Skills:

  • Significant experience in a senior finance role, ideally from a design, architecture or related practice
  • A confident and knowledgeable decision-maker with a strong awareness of good business practices
  • Someone with a positive, team-oriented mentality and a willingness to learn new systems and practices
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks within a busy studio environment
  • Strong understanding of accounting regulations, foreign exchange policies, and internet banking systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using Deltek required
  • Expert-level Excel skills
