Head of Sustainability

The Role:

A global architectural design firm that work on a variety of multidisciplinary international projects are seeking an innovative individual to join their team in Central London, to lead the sustainable mindset of its business in understanding the challenges faced by the architecture and design industry.

You will be leading on the environmental sustainability of specific ongoing and upcoming projects from the London office while also managing the external engagement within the studios based in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. You will be working with a creative and innovative team who are passionate about a tangible change for a green future.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in carbon design and possess a passion for a sustainable future within the architecture and design industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with interior, landscape and architectural departments of the business to advance and grow a sustainable advisory as a source of revenue
  • Build a network of external consultants in assisting processes where in-house capabilities are unavailable and work with EMEA board of directors, EcoPOP and marketing teams
  • Resource talent who have a focus on a green future and lead them in undertaking formal sustainable reviews of all major projects on all RIBA stages
  • Identifying key areas of research and manage in house execution
  • Popularising sustainable achievements of the practice and authoring publications
  • Drive sustainability advisory projects and influence the trends within each of the practice’s building typologies
  • Manage a research group from completion to late design stages, initiating environmental analysis, design workflows, small test projects and driving live project research
  • Join external thought leadership organisations such as LETI, UK Green Building Council, RIBA, NLA Net Zero
  • Overseeing the payments of all sustainable-driven staff subscriptions such as BREEAM and LEED

Key Skills:

  • Possess strong leadership skills and have a proven track record of leading a sustainability agenda in a creative environment and be passionate about a green future
  • Experience in leading teams and liaising with many consultants both internally and externally
  • Hold BREEAM and LEED qualifications to oversee the quality of all evidence submitted by the company’s assessments
  • An understanding of Passivhaus performance, complex digital models, design processes and environmental analysis tools
  • Capable of delivering life cycle assessments and carbon costing exercises
  • The ability to present environmental design and sustainability standards in a captivating and understandable manner
  • Experience working in a similar role in the EMEA region would be beneficial
