Head of Sustainability

The Role:

A highly sought after, leading architecture and urban design practice, who are at the forefront of design and a carbon neutral future are seeking a Sustainable Lead to join them at their office in Central London.

This position will work closely with the Partner of the practice and will play a crucial role in communicating and promoting the sustainable strategy across the company. You will be working with the design teams, clients and consultants and helping guide performance analysis. The ideal person will be confident in knowledge sharing and can enthusiastically lead the company’s sustainability agenda.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the architecture, design and project teams to develop sustainable strategies within methodologies, materials, building physics, politics, codes, metrics, accreditation, design and details
  • Promote sustainable software skills across the practice and broaden the existing Sustainability Toolkit going forward
  • Support the practice in fulfilling RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge commitments and reporting to Partners at regular meetings
  • Implement a comprehensive staff sustainability training program, in line with the climate framework
  • Business development and assist in winning work
  • Engage with ISO 14001 and 50001 certification requirements and work towards annual targets
  • Liaise with UKGBC and other advisory groups and coordinate practice contributions to their events, and recommend engagement with training offers

Key Skills:

  • Post graduate degree in environmental design, architectural engineering or equivalent
  • Demonstrate experience in applying sustainable design in an architectural or engineering practice
  • Training in architecture is admired but not essential
  • Ability to lead sustainable design deliverables for multiple schemes simultaneously
  • Knowledge of current environmental simulation tools 
  • A can do attitude with enthusiasm to connect with internal and external teams
  • Excellent problem solving, organisational and time management skills and confidence in communicating environmental strategies in a variety of formats
