Sustainability Designer
About The Role:
Join a pioneering and employee-owned large-scale AJ100 architectural practice based in London as they seek a Sustainability Designer to join their London team.
Within this key role, you’ll champion sustainable design practices across all project stages, reporting directly to the Partner, Sustainable Design Lead and collaborate with the wider sustainability team. You will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of project across multiple sectors, driving our client’s sustainability mission forward through environmental analysis (Whole Life Carbon) and research and communicate accordingly across the wider project teams.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Embodied and Whole Life Carbon analyses at various project milestones
- Facilitate the integration and enhancement of WLCA within the studio
- Lead efforts to identify and implement carbon reduction strategies in projects
- Support the practice in achieving RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge targets
- Promote the pursuit of net-zero carbon, passive design, and fabric-first initiatives
- Conduct sustainable design assessments at crucial stages of project development
- Offer guidance on material choices based on responsible sourcing, carbon impact, and Circular Economy principles
- Assist with the CPD program in line with RIBA standards
- Engage in research activities as needed
Key Skills/Requirements:
- Proven experience with Embodied and Whole Life Carbon analysis using RICS WLCA Methodology and OneClick LCA
- Solid grasp of current WLCA standards
- Experience in a sustainability role within a design practice
- Master’s degree in environmental design or related field
- Architectural training is a plus
- Familiar with design processes and RIBA stages
- Self-motivated and a strong team player
- Professional and proactive with creative input
- Adaptable in dynamic environments
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of BREEAM, Passivhaus, and thermal modelling tools is beneficial
