Landscape Architect / Designer (Japanese Speaking)

About The Role:

The Crowd are partnered with a leading international design studio that specialise in landscape architecture and urban design, they are seeking a Landscape Architect / Designer to join their team in Japan. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on high-profile projects across Japan and internationally, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across multiple studios.

This position would suit a technically confident and design-led landscape architect with strong experience across design phases, particularly design development, and native or bilingual Japanese language skills. You will play a key role in supporting projects from concept through delivery, acting as a vital link between Japanese stakeholders and international design teams, ensuring design intent is maintained through clear communication and high-quality technical output.

The role can be based in Tokyo or the Bay Area, with in-studio working required and travel as per project demand.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop landscape design packages from concept through design development and beyond
• Act as a Japanese – English liaison between clients, consultants and international project teams
• Protect and communicate design intent through strong technical and visual delivery
• Coordinate closely with architects, engineers and external consultants
• Produce detailed drawings, technical packages and presentation material
• Support consultant coordination, design reviews and responses to RFIs
• Assist during later design stages, including documentation and construction-phase input where required
• Collaborate across studios and time zones on international projects
• Travel to support project delivery

Key Skills / Requirements

• Degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related discipline
• 4 +years of professional experience within landscape architecture or a related field
• Native or bilingual Japanese (spoken and written) with professional working proficiency in English
• Strong experience across design phases
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office
• Confident communicator with experience working across international teams and consultants
• Revit, construction-phase QA/QC and contractor drawing review experience advantageous
• Professional licensure (Japan and/or US), LEED accreditation or equivalent certifications beneficial
