Senior Interior Designer (Production & Staging)

About The Role:

A globally recognized, high-caliber international design studio is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join its team in New York.

Renowned for its distinctive approach to furniture, objects, and immersive interior environments, the studio operates at the intersection of interiors, fabrication, staging, styling, and product design – creating spaces and products that are both emotionally resonant and architecturally refined.

Unlike a traditional interior design role centered solely around project delivery, this position sits within a uniquely multidisciplinary creative environment where interiors, custom furnishings, manufacturing, installation, and visual storytelling are intertwined. The ideal candidate will bring a strong design foundation paired with a highly technical production mindset, thriving within a process that moves fluidly between conceptual development, construction documentation, fabrication coordination, staging, and installation execution.

Working closely with the Director and broader creative leadership, this role requires a designer who is curious, collaborative, technically rigorous, and creatively engaged. The team is seeking someone who enjoys pushing boundaries, contributing ideas, and participating actively within a studio culture that values experimentation, dialogue, and collective creativity. Candidates coming from highly design-driven hospitality, retail, exhibition, theater, experiential, furniture, or interiors-focused production environments will be particularly well-aligned with the nature of the work.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior-level designer who is passionate about the relationship between interiors, objects, fabrication, and atmosphere, and who is excited by the opportunity to contribute to one of the industry’s most distinctive and creatively respected studios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Director and creative leadership to execute highly bespoke interior environments, staging concepts, and custom-designed furnishings and objects
  • Translate conceptual design direction into detailed and highly resolved technical drawing packages, fabrication documentation, and production-ready interior solutions
  • Produce comprehensive interior elevations, millwork drawings, furniture detailing, construction documentation, and material specifications with exceptional precision and organization
  • Develop and maintain complex Rhino models and CAD drawing sets throughout all phases of design, fabrication, and installation
  • Coordinate directly with internal fabrication teams, artisans, vendors, consultants, and external production partners to ensure seamless execution of custom elements and interior installations
  • Support the design and production of furniture, lighting, decorative objects, staging elements, and spatial compositions as part of the studio’s broader multidisciplinary practice
  • Contribute to material research, sourcing, finish development, and presentation preparation while maintaining alignment with the studio’s distinct visual language and aesthetic standards
  • Review fabrication drawings, shop drawings, samples, and construction submittals to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and adherence to design intent
  • Participate in installation oversight, styling, staging, and on-site coordination for interior and experiential projects
  • Maintain organized project documentation, schedules, specifications, and internal communications across multiple active projects simultaneously
  • Collaborate within a highly interactive studio environment that encourages idea-sharing, experimentation, creative dialogue, and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Balance conceptual thinking with strong production and execution capabilities, contributing meaningfully to both the creative and technical aspects of the work

Key Skills / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, Exhibition Design, or related field
  • 7+ years of professional experience within high-end interiors, hospitality, retail, experiential, exhibition, furniture, or production-driven design environments
  • Strong technical expertise with advanced experience producing construction documentation, millwork drawings, furniture detailing, and fabrication packages
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD and Rhino required, with strong 3D modeling and visualization capabilities
  • Experience working within highly design-driven studios where interiors, objects, staging, fabrication, and storytelling intersect
  • Strong understanding of custom fabrication processes, material applications, furnishings, construction detailing, and installation coordination
  • Experience collaborating closely with fabricators, production teams, artisans, consultants, and multidisciplinary creative teams
  • Sophisticated design sensibility with a strong understanding of composition, atmosphere, materiality, scale, and spatial storytelling
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced creative environment
  • Curious, collaborative, and highly engaged personality with a willingness to contribute ideas and participate actively within a team-oriented studio culture
  • Comfortable working in-office full-time within a highly collaborative and hands-on environment
  • Ability to adapt quickly, think critically, and contribute beyond traditional role boundaries within an evolving creative practice
