Chief Financial Officer/Finance Director

The Role:

A mid-sized internationally praised landscape architecture firm is seeking a Chief Financial Officer / Finance Director to join their New York studio.

In this fast-paced role, you will be responsible initially for the overhaul of the entire financial function, streamlining and putting processes in place. Forming part of the leadership team you will be the driving force behind financial strategy of the global studios and will act as a financial and commercial advisor for the company as a whole. As a newly created position within the business, this pivotal role will manage the financial health of the business and will have overall responsibility for the finance function to ensure the finance function runs efficiently in order to produce timely financial reports that will aid with key decision making.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced financial professional to truly make their mark on a design-led, creative and highly driven and design firm. This role offers flexible working (requirement to come into the office for leadership meetings minimum once per week) and space to make something your own.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the entire finance function of three international offices
  • Manage and monitor the company’s cashflow and the overall financial health of the business
  • Devise and implement financial and commercial strategies
  • Provide sound financial guidance and act as main point of contact for financial needs of the company
  • Produce efficient monthly management accounts, providing feedback to the senior team, including ideas for improvements and insights
  • Produce budgets and forecasting, variance analysis and financial reporting
  • Lead monthly finance meetings, providing financial and commercial oversight and producing financial management pack
  • Attend weekly leadership meeting advising on project financials
  • Report and advise on key performance indicators
  • Oversee the company’s payroll and pension function, ensuring full compliance
  • Manage the company’s tax affairs and any other reporting and statutory returns
  • Review all financial policies and processes, adapting and implementing improvements where necessary
  • Ensure compliance with US tax laws
  • R&D reporting
  • Manage any risks and financial issues, in addition to analyzing and advising on opportunities

Key Skills: 

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar role within the architecture industry or built environment
  • Fully qualified accountant
  • Previous experience streamlining financial processes
  • Previous experience in an advisory position
  • International finance exposure
  • Commercially minded and strategy driven
  • Possess confidence to challenge the status quo and bring forward ideas to aid with decision making and development
  • Strong proficiency in Excel
  • Xero/QuickBooks experience
  • Systems orientated
