Director of Operations (Interior Design)

About The Role:

The Crowd is excited to be partnering with a globally recognized design studio celebrated for its work across luxury hospitality, residential, and commercial interiors. With a reputation for excellence and a highly collaborative studio culture, this firm continues to push the boundaries of design and delivery and is now seeking a Director of Operations to join their NYC team. This is a full-time leadership role offering the opportunity to shape and refine how a high-performing creative business operates at scale.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic yet hands-on operational leader who thrives in fast-paced, project-driven environments. This individual will play a critical role in aligning people, processes, and performance across multiple teams – ensuring seamless project execution, strong financial outcomes, and clear operational structure. You’ll work closely with senior leadership to translate big-picture priorities into practical systems, while continuously identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, communication, and overall studio performance. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and optimize day-to-day operations across multiple studios, ensuring consistency in workflows, communication, and project execution standards
  • Partner with leadership and finance teams to monitor project performance, utilization, and staffing alignment, proactively addressing risks and inefficiencies
  • Lead and refine internal systems, tools, and processes to improve clarity, scalability, and overall operational effectiveness
  • Support contract and project lifecycle workflows, ensuring smooth transitions from business development through delivery, while coordinating with legal and external partners as needed
  • Provide operational guidance and structure to studio leaders and project teams, reinforcing accountability and driving continuous improvement across the organization

Key Skills/Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in operations, project management, or studio leadership within a design, architecture, or professional services environment
  • Strong understanding of project-based business models, including staffing, utilization, and financial performance metrics
  • Proven ability to build, implement, and improve operational systems and processes within a growing organization
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of a business
  • Highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-moving environment
