Head of Studio/Studio Director

The Role:

 From regenerating iconic urban landscapes within the public realm to diverse master planning, a mid-sized and world-renowned landscape design studio with offices internationally are seeking a commercially astute and driven leader to join their London office as their Head of Studio.

Within this role, you will be instrumental in guiding the studio through growth, success and profitability and be the main point of contact for designers and the support team in London, ensuring project deliverables are being met. You will work alongside the senior leadership team and partners to drive the business forward with responsibility for all aspects of the studio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, lead and oversee the London studio and its projects
  • Lead project teams, ensuring design and technical excellence
  • Contribute to studio strategy, bringing forward ideas to help drive the business forward
  • Chair and lead internal meetings, both with the local teams and the other international offices
  • Build client relationships including attending and leading client meetings
  • Manage project and studio wide budgets and financials ensuring profitability
  • Conduct check-ins with project team leaders, project workflow scheduling ensuring projects are successfully delivered on time to the highest quality
  • Participate in contract negotiation and project pricing
  • Ensure processes and procedures are streamlined, implementing improvements where necessary to promote efficiency across the studio
  • Facilitate project reviews, resolving any issues
  • Mentor staff, identify areas for improvement and promote a positive and successful working environment
  • Be abreast of industry trends, current projects and help promote the company’s brand identity, acting as a company ambassador at all times
  • Oversee the studio’s staffing and resourcing needs, with involvement in hiring, interviewing and onboarding/training new employees
  • Conduct team performance reviews
  • Manage workload projections

Key Skills:

  • Previous experience working as a Landscape Architect is a must
  • Relevant degree in landscape architecture
  • Ideally 20+ years of leadership experience within landscape architecture
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Motivational in creating high performance and design excellence
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, commercial and strategic thinking
  • Works effectively in face-to-face and remote settings
  • Confident in bringing forward ideas and improvements
  • Able to travel both nationally and internationally
  • Strong local and global connections is highly beneficial
