Principal Architect (Housing)

The Role:

A unique opportunity has arisen to join a design-led, boutique developer to help build their in-house architecture team. They are looking for an accomplished and well-rounded Principal Architect to spearhead the design team, be a ‘right hand person’ to the founders and be an integral part of the business.

With a clear vision in mind, and a portfolio of noteworthy projects under their belt our client has a strong pipeline of projects ahead of them and is looking for someone to play a pivotal role in the growth of the business. Working alongside the founders you will lead the design team. and be involved in all aspects of the business from developing initial concepts through to mentoring team members, strategy, client development and more. The ideal person will be a director level architect with a passion for design-led housing projects and have experience of leading teams and projects through all stages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of all design stages 0-7
  • Run an architectural team and a portfolio of quality projects efficiently and profitably
  • Lead and develop design solutions
  • Take responsibility for all strategic issues – working alongside the business leaders
  • Ensure that all architectural, structural, services installation, and other building elements are technically coordinated throughout the design
  • Manage, develop and grow the design team
  • Be a ‘face of the business’ ensuring client relationships are developed and maintained
  • Involvement in budgets and strategic planning
  • Lead design/project meetings
  • Liaise with relevant external stakeholders including contractors
  • Be a go to person for technical support and problem-solving

Key Skills:

  • ARB Registered Architect with 10+ years’ experience
  • Experience working on design-led UK housing projects is essential
  • Excellent design/technical knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of UK construction and building legislation
  • Excellent communication skills and team leadership
  • Excellent software skills including Revit and AutoCAD
  • Strong coordination experience and ability to manage multi-disciplinary contractors
