Sustainability Manager

The Role:

A leading architecture practice is seeking a dedicated Sustainability Manager to drive and contribute to the sustainability goals of the practice while engaging with various stakeholders at all levels.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in the development, implementation, guidance and advising on all of the sustainability requirements for the practice’s projects. Also, contributing to the development of the net zero whole life carbon, climatic and environmental design, including sustainable material investigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employ best sustainable practices in design principles to improve general knowledge of sustainability and regenerative design
  • Ensure all communications are proactively delivered for best practice
  • Ensure the practice’s framework for sustainability is used on all projects
  • Support the design team in the net zero whole carbon targets
  • Assist in the process of material selection, cycle analysis, EPD’s database and filing in the material library
  • Work with stakeholders such as clients, consultants and external experts as well as the most junior staff of the practice
  • Act as the first point of contact in external meetings while developing an industry-leading profile
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry research, standards, tools, and processes in the UK and internationally while advising on projects design reviews
  • Attend seminars and events reporting back on research and sustainability matters
  • Promote and lead research in the practice’s sustainability groups
  • Recommend and implement educational material for internal CPDs
  • Support new business and marketing teams in producing sustainability material, award entries and bids where necessary
  • Support the project efficiency team with Environmental Management Certification, internal environmental policies and stage review requirements
  • Support internal sustainability events and exhibitions

Key skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or M&E & Masters degree in sustainability
  • 5+ years experience in a similar role within an architecture or design practice
  • Knowledgeable in BREAAM, LEED, Passivhaus, WELL and NABERS, with UK and international laws and building regulations
  • Practical knowledge and experience in the construction industry, UK & international building regulations is essential
  • Deep knowledge of sustainability issues and opportunities, with LETI, RIBA 2030 climate change and UK GBC guidance
  • An understanding of RICS methodologies for Life Cycle Assessment, One Click LCA and Revit workflows
  • Excellent communication skills and possess an approachable and professional attitude
  •  Understanding of environmental simulation tools for high-performance building design, including daylight and sunlight analysis, energy and thermal modelling
